The end of the year is coming, and you already know what that means. We’re not talking about Black Friday or the “Christmas shopping season.” Qualcomm will showcase its newest flagship processor on November 30, and then the competition will be on to see who can announce the first phone featuring it.
Both Lenovo-owned Motorola and Xiaomi are rumored to be rivals this year, and while it’s unknown who will “win” this shady battle, the Xiaomi 12’s announcement date has been fixed, according to a rumor out of China today (although not made public yet).
Because 12, 12/12, and symmetry all around, it will be December 12. The original plan was for the event to take place on December 16, but that isn’t a 12. If all goes well, the unveiling will take place on December 12th, which is a Sunday. Weird, but not too bad.
According to a recent rumor, the Xiaomi 12X might be unveiled alongside the Xiaomi 12 at the same event. However, don’t hold your breath for a 12 Ultra; it’ll almost probably arrive later, in 2022.
The Xiaomi 12 is claimed to have a curved screen with a selfie camera hole in the center, a 120 Hz refresh rate, “2K” resolution, twin speakers, and a triple rear camera system with a 50 MP primary sensor from Samsung or Sony. 120W rapid charging and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor are two other features that could be included.
The Xiaomi 12 will almost certainly launch with the next MIUI 13 pre-installed, and the software will almost certainly be unveiled at the same time. Although, wouldn’t it make more sense for the MIUI 13 announcement to be made a day later? That is, while we’re tinkering with statistics.
