Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Smart Band 6 NFC for the European market at its huge worldwide launch event in mid-September, alongside a slew of other products. The non-NFC version of the Band 6 has been available since March, but this time there’s the promise of on-wrist payment capability, courtesy of a Mastercard collaboration.
The Mi Smart Band 6 NFC is now available in Europe – however not across the continent, but only in one country: Italy. For the recommended price of €54.99, you may get one via Xiaomi’s Italian online store or Amazon Italy.
If you want to buy it for the payment support, scroll down the listing page until you see a list of compatible banks. There are quite a few, but if yours isn’t on the list, payments will not be accepted, at least for the time being. This version of the Band 6 includes a microphone and Alexa functionality; you can speak to Alexa, but it will not respond. It will, nevertheless, show you whatever you require on the screen.
We presume that the fact that the NFC-capable Band 6 is now only available in one European region is due to the difficulty in convincing banks to support the payment system, which is likely to be a lengthy process that must be done country by country. As a result, expect the band’s spread across the continent to be gradual.
